Ted Talks video: Listening to expertsWritten by on Posted in Product design
This might sound like an odd post for a consultancy firm, but at the heart of the message is to seek the appropriate advise from the right people, and then begin a discussion. It sounds simple, but Noreena has found that it’s not that common. “Studies show that the independent decision making part of peoples brain flat line when taking advice from experts” – (Noreena Hertz: How to use experts – and when not to, TEDSalon London 2010 Post)
Noreena (herself a proffesor of economics who advises the governments & CEO’s) believes the role of experts has to change. She’s encouraging us all to rebel, challenge and think for ourselves. We have experience on both sides of this and it’s a good message. For example; we are experts in product design for production who advise our clients on how best to design and produce their products, We in turn use experts in manufacturing and rely on our clients as experts in their field. We believe that by developing products within a close team that is prepared to question and discuss all elements of the design we can work together, challenge each other and develop a better product as a result.
